Biodata : Ir. Neoh has been a Vice Chairman of IEM (2004-2006), Chairman of Technical Committee on Geotechnics (TC5)of Road Association of Malaysia (1997-2006) and Chairman of IEM Geotechnical Technical Division (1996-1998),etc.

He joined JKR Malaysia for 25 years after graduated from UM in 1974. He joined IKRAM Runding Sdn Bhd as Director from 1999 to 2000. Since 2001, he is the Director of E-GEO Consultant Sdn Bhd.

He has published more than 50 technical papers about geotechnical and road engineering in various local & international conferences/seminars/journal.

He is a registered BEM Accredited Independent Checker (Geotechnical).

Section 1:
Overview of pile foundation design principles & practice: pile classification, design standards & codes of practice (BS 8004 & EC 7), design principles & methods, design criteria & considerations (ultimate & serviceability states, durability aspects & site environment factors, etc), common pile types & their respective applications & limitations to various site/subsoil & loading conditions, pile behavior in clay/sand/ rock, pile behavior & response when subject to various types of loading, pile group efficiency for various pile types/installation methods & subsoil conditions, common piling problems in various typical site & subsoil conditions for various pile types, pile selection chart, etc., will be elaborated with practical examples.

Practical pile design guides: scope of SI to meet BS 8004/EC 7 requirements, ground characterization & design parameter selection, comprehensive scope & methods/ procedures of design verification/calculations and design validation plus underlying principles involved for driven piles, bored piles & micropiles will be elaborated.

Detail step-by-step design case histories of displacement piles for low-rise & high-rise buildings (driven & jacked concrete piles) including comprehensive cope & methods/procedures of design verification/ calculations & design validation (BS 8004 & EC7) in typical site/subsoil conditions will be elaborated. Estimation of handling/installation/working stresses for concrete piles (precast RC & spun piles) & the corresponding permissible limits plus interpretation of SI results & how to estimate safe working capacity (geotechnical & structural) for given subsoil conditions & installation methods (driven & jacked), etc., will be presented.
Section 4:
How methods of drilling/concreting or grouting & types of reinforcement can affect capacity & integrity of bored piles & micropiles will be elaborated with case histories. Comprehensive scope & methods/procedures of design verification/calculations & design validation (BS 8004 & EC7) will be elaborated. SI interpretation & how to estimate safe working capacity (geotechnical & structural) for given subsoil conditions & installation methods will be illustrated.

Section 6:
Works specification for RC piles, spun piles, bored piles & micropiles with particular reference to requirements for materials, construction controls, workmanship, scope of QC, dimension tolerances, scope of inspection & recording, etc., to meet good engineering practice/codes of practice will be highlighted.
