Introduction
SECTION 1
Classification of types of building foundation distress/defects & failures, common causes & effects of building foundation failures/distress, etc. Common difficult/problematic grounds for building foundations & mitigations required.
Building foundation failure investigation: scope, techniques & checklist.

SECTION 2
Common design shortfalls & construction defects for building foundations.
Common methods of remediation & technical basis/calculations. Case histories.
How ground vibration and ground movement can be generated to cause building foundation distress and failures? Mechanism? Assessments? Mitigations? Case histories?

SECTION 3
Case History 1. Building foundation failure in filled ground including background, failure description, failure investigation, analysis, findings, recommendations, design of remediation works & construction details, construction controls and scope of design validation, etc. Presentation and explanation will focus on mechanism and theories on how the collapse settlement and ground movement have induced significant settlement and negative friction to the supporting piles leading to excessive settlement and resulting in structural cracks on the ground beams and superstructures. Mitigations and precautions to avoid committing similar problems will be suggested.

SECTION 4
Case History 2. Building foundation failure is about how some settling columns of buildings are remedied. Presentation include problem description, identification and determination of possible causes for the problem, methods and proposals of remediation considered, analysis of proposals and recommendation, construction and design validation, etc., will be illustrated with slides, etc..
Case History 3. Presentation, illustration and discussion of 5 case histories of building foundation failures on slope, filled ground & soft ground will be carried out with active participation from the participants. Scope of discussion/ presentation includes how the causes for failure are investigated and determined, how cost-effective remediation methods are selected, how to analysis the problem, how to ensure the proposal is effective, etc., will be discussed.

Biodata : Ir. Neoh has been a Vice Chairman of IEM (2004-2006), Chairman of Technical Committee on Geotechnics (TC5)of Road Association of Malaysia (1997-2006) and Chairman of IEM Geotechnical Technical Division (1996-1998),etc.

He joined JKR Malaysia for 25 years after graduated from UM in 1974. He joined IKRAM Runding Sdn Bhd as Director from 1999 to 2000. Since 2001, he is the Director of E-GEO Consultant Sdn Bhd.

He has published more than 50 technical papers about geotechnical and road engineering in various local & international conferences/seminars/journal.

He is a registered BEM Accredited Independent Checker (Geotechnical).
