Introduction
SECTION 1:
Classification, characteristics, applications & limitations of micropiles. Basic differences between micropiles and bored piles.
Design standard & design practice. Scope of SI and important information & parameters sought for micropile design & construction.

SECTION 2:
Scope & methods of design & construction of micropiles with particular reference to drilling, reinforcement and grouting practice and how these can affect performance of micropiles will be presented. Scope of design verification/analysis /calculations required to meet the usual design standard/practice/EC 7.
Mitigations against the common construction problems & risks at various typical sites and subsoil conditions.

SECTION 3:
Five design case histories of micropiles illustrating how and why micropile option is selected based on loading, site and subsoil conditions given. Specification & selection of micropile type (drilling method, type of reinforcement & grouting method, etc.) will be elaborated. How to estimate structural and geotechnical capacity, critical load, pile head design, mitigations against what can go wrong, etc., will also be illustrated. Scope of design validation, QC & testing to ensure micropiles have adequate safe capacity & are structurally intact will be explained. Preparation of Specification, design drawings, BQ, etc.
Evaluation and assessment of micropile testing results with particular reference to structural integrity, safe capacity and representativeness of results, etc., will be presented.

SECTION 4:
Three case histories of foundation failures and how underpinning works are designed and constructed. Presentation includes project background, failure description & analysis, causes of failure, technical requirements to meet for remediation, evaluation of feasible options of remediation, selection of underpinning method, design criteria, details of remediation works, construction problems & mitigations, design validation and scope of QC tests to ensure the design requirements are met, construction method and site problems encountered, etc.

Biodata : Ir. Neoh has been a Vice Chairman of IEM (2004-2006), Chairman of Technical Committee on Geotechnics (TC5)of Road Association of Malaysia (1997-2006) and Chairman of IEM Geotechnical Technical Division (1996-1998),etc.

He joined JKR Malaysia for 25 years after graduated from UM in 1974. He joined IKRAM Runding Sdn Bhd as Director from 1999 to 2000. Since 2001, he is the Director of E-GEO Consultant Sdn Bhd.

He has published more than 50 technical papers about geotechnical and road engineering in various local & international conferences/seminars/journal.

He is a registered BEM Accredited Independent Checker (Geotechnical).
