SECTION 1: Overview of ground improvement techniques & SI
• Common instability and excessive deformation problems of soft ground and unstable/uncontrolled filled grounds to road embankment, building platform, retaining wall construction, etc.
• Common ground improvement techniques: classification, types & methods, applications & limitations, design standard/criteria, design principles/concept, etc. • Critical subsoil parameters & information required for analysis and assessments of stability and settlement (vertical & lateral) for soft ground and unstable ground. Relevant methods of insitu and laboratory tests to procure the required properties. How to plan scope of SI to ensure adequate & reliable SI information & parameters are procured for the design of common ground improvement techniques. How to prepare SI interpretative report, etc. • Geotechnical design: How to select appropriate parameters from SI results for stability & deformation analysis for common ground improvement methods. How to design & prepare adequate scope of QC & design validation. Instrumentation, etc. • Structural design: MS 1314 requirements for concrete piles & minimum structural requirements for pile body, joints and shoes for pile raft. Steel and timber pile requirements. How to estimate permissible and installation stresses for precast RC piles, prestressed concrete piles, steel piles and timber piles, etc. QC requirements. • Design & construction checklists |
