Introduction
COURSE OUTLINE
Section 1
• Overview of engineering problems and solutions for soft soils.
• Typical properties and behaviour of soft clay.
• Relevant Tests and soil investigation (SI) methods to procure properties for stability and settlement analysis. Guidelines for planning and scope of SI plus interpretations to select design parameters will be illustrated with case histories.
Section 2
• Design criteria for embankments over soft ground, basis and implications.
• Common ground treatment techniques with particular reference to design concept / principle, design methods, design parameters selection, QC and design validation requirements, common construction problems and mitigations for :
-Preloading, Preloading with prefabricated vertical drains (pvd), Electrical vertical drain, Partial sand replacement, Stone columns, Cement/lime columns, EPS, Geotextile reinforcement, Geocell reinforcement, Pile raft, Dynamic compaction
• Ground treatment selection chart.
Section 3 & 4
• Case histories illustrating planning of SI to procure relevant info for analysis, design methods and calculation scheme of design validation and actual construction problems and solutions for the following ground treatment will be prevented.
